J2 have been learning about how to cross the road safely. We must always look to the left and look to the right before crossing the road. We understand that the traffic lights are there to help us to cross the road safely. We know that the Green light means GO, the Red light means STOP and the Orange light means GET READY.

J2 Meet the Donkeys.
J2 have been learning about "People who Help Us". They really enjoyed learning about the role of the fire-fighters. They understand that fire is very dangerous and that it is extremely hot. J2 know that they must phone 999 if they see a fire and they loved shouting "HELP HELP!!!". J2 enjoyed playing at the fire station, squirting the water from the hose, dressing up as fire-fighters, climbing the ladder and pushing the fire engine. We also created explosive fire pictures which can be seen below.
J2 have been busy celebrating 3 birthdays in April and May. We have enjoyed the parties in class and had fun playing party games and dancing. We also enjoyed eating some birthday cake and tasty treats.
J2 have been keeping busy and we have enjoyed the Spring term. We visited Mc Connells shoe shop to explore a variety of different shoes. This linked to the story of the "Elves and the Shoemaker" which we had been reading in class. We also went to Springhill and saw signs of Spring. There were beautiful daffodils there.
See below some pictures of J2 playing with the vechicles during outdoor play, at Ballyronan Marina, enjoying some music, doing some artwork and celebrating Pancake Tuesday.
J2 really enjoyed our visit to our local library in Magherafelt. It was a very enjoyable and educational outing. We looked for books related to our Pets topic. The pupils were very engaged and they especially enjoyed our group story session.
J2 used various different sized and textured balls to create a sensory art piece. They had great fun dipping the balls into the paint and then splatting them onto the black paper in their tray. They were encouraged to move their tray and swirl their balls. J2 loved seeing the colourful effect that the balls created. Well done J2!
J2 really got into the festive spirit of Christmas by wearing our Christmas jumpers into school on Friday, 11th of December. It was a superb day. We kicked off the day by taking part in a whole school jumper parade to festive music in the hall. We played Christmas games, did Christmas arts and crafts and played in our "North Pole" area with the animals from the Artic. We also ate our delicious, tasty Christmas dinner which was provided by our wonderful school cooks. It was a brilliant day which was enjoyed by all.
J2 have been busy preparing for Christmas and we have been learning all about the story of the Nativity. J2 enjoyed dressing up and acting out the story. They especially loved singing "Away in a Manger".
J2 had fun celebrating a birthday in December. One of our pupils was 5. Wishing her a big "Happy Birthday".
J2 have been busy learning all about toys. We have been looking at toys from the past and comparing them to present toys. We have also been reviewing several toys e. g wheeled toys, toys that move, battery operated toys, musical toys, cuddly toys, construction toys etc. We have been playing with lots of different toys and we have been actively involved in playing in our role-play area, "The Toy Shop". The pupils brought in their favourite toys from home and they loved showing them off during our "Show and Tell" at circle-time. We have been very fortunate to visit Toymaster in Cookstown and Toymaster in Maghera on our educational outings. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The pupils also made their wish list of toys that they want from Santa. Santa will certainly be a busy man this year! Let's hope that J2 pupils continue to behave and be good.
Outdoor play and recreational time outside in J2.
J2 have been very lucky to receive 4 dance sessions from Claire Evans and her assistant Aileen. These ladies represent the Ulster Scots society. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the celtic music and they loved learning a variety of basic steps.
J2 painted shoeboxes to represent 3D houses. Each pupil chose their preffered colour of choice. Everyone enjoyed painting and was very engaged. These houses were meant to look like the houses in Balamory. We have been singing this song and it is a definite favourite with J2.
J2 have been listening for sounds and exploring the sense of hearing by playing the Sound Lotto Bingo game. They listened carefully and when they heard the sound effect, they put a button on the corresponding picture. It was a very enjoyable activity. The pupils enjoyed listening attentively and were excited when their visual cards were covered with buttons. Super listening by J2. J2 also enjoyed dressing up in their Halloween costumes, they were engaged in "spooky" art activites, "spooky" music activites and Halloween games.
J2 have been really busy learning about the world around them. We have been enjoying our play based learning and outdoor learning. We especially enjoyed gathering Autumn leaves in our wonderful sensory garden. We loved looking at the different coloured leaves. We also had fun driving the vechicles on our outdoor race track, on the swing and slide and in the vegetable soil patch.
J2 have been having fun developing their physical skills in the Soft Play area. They love throwing and catching the balls. They enjoy climbing over and under the obstacles. The pupils love spending time in the Soft Play and playing here also improves their social skills.
J2 and J1 have an assembly every Friday. This is a special time where we can share our learning experiences throughout the week with one another and reward our succeses. The pupils receive recognition for their achievements and hard work on their targets. We sing songs of praise and give thanks to God through prayer. The pupils and staff really enjoy our weekly assemblies.
J2 have been really busy this term learning all about "Ourselves" and "Our 5 Senses". We have been learning about sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell through Play Based Learning and our Topic work. We have been exploring different textures and investigating our sense of touch. We have been outside in our Sensory garden using our sense of sight to see the Autumn colour and textures. We have been using our ears to explore different environmental sounds, farm animals and musical instruments. We have been smelling various food items, oils and candles etc. It has been an extremely rewarding topic.

Our visit to PolePatrick.
We had a brilliant morning when Zoolab came to Kilronan. Sarah from Zoolab brought along her friends for us to meet. We met Shirley the snail, Ziggy the snake, Oscar the Rat, Rose the tarantula and Melvin the tortoise. Some of us were very brave and stroked the animals but others were happier to watch the animals from a distance and didn't like them coming too close!!
