Welcome to J4 J4 welcomed 7 wonderful pupils- Daniel, Keifa, Jarlath, Jamie, Sean, David, and Luke.
New term, New topic, New experiences. After mid-term, J4 embraced their new topic ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. There have been many highlights of term two so far. World Book Day was celebrated by all with a 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'. Fine Motor Development has been encouraged by construction, stickle brick and use of the Interactive White Board. Creativity and imagination has been stimulated with balloon painting and sensory shaving foam play. Pupil's continued to observe changes by growing cress and benefit from their experiences of Pony Riding at the wonderful Fort Riding School.
Happy New Year! J4 have all come back to class, healthy and refreshed from their Christmas break. The new topic for this half term is Chocolate. We have been focusing on the ‘World Around Us’, enthusiastically discovering the changes that happen to chocolate when we melt it, spread it, cool and paint with it! Have a look at a sample of our play based learning experiences. You will discover mark making, outdoor play, role play and art.
December in J4 has been a busy month.
J4 joined with J5 and J6 to perform their Christmas Show ‘Snow is falling’. All pupils were ‘Bright Shining Stars’. Keifa, Jarlath and Luke were children playing in the snow. Sean was a snowman. David, Daniel and Jamie were snowflakes. We hope everyone who watched our production enjoyed it as much as we did performing it.
Christmas Dinner and Jumper Day
Christmas Dinner was a wonderful afternoon in school. Many thanks to the Kitchen staff for their efforts. Clean plates indicated that all J4 pupils’ thought the dinner was ‘yum yum’!
J4 pupils’ embraced Christmas Jumper Day and loved showing their jumpers to their peers and staff. A fun Friday in Kilronan.
J4 pupils’ responded positively to a visit to Magherafelt Library. All behaved appropriately and enjoyed the experience. Opportunities were given for pupils to look at and handle books, to turn pages, to listen to the text and to engage with the stories. Well done J4!
Zoo Lab Visits Kilronan
Wonderful creatures from ‘the world around us’ came to ‘say hello’ to Kilronan pupils. J4 had the opportunity to use their senses to touch, smell, hear and see a variety of animals, such as a rat, a snake, a spider and a snail. All pupils benefited from the experience, some being more willing to watch, rather than touch.
J4 have been learning about The Jungle. Role play in the tuft spot is developing turn taking and listening skills. The animal sounds can be fun to hear and copy. Pupil's have also been listening to the story of Noah's Arc and using their creativity skills to paint the Arc. Compost play has proven to be very popular and all pupils have planted some bulbs. We look forward to Spring when we can see them grow. Routines are well established and pupils try their best to identify the correct number to stay in line before they leave the classroom for outdoor play or PE. A visit to our wonderful sensory room is always a treat for J4. 'Dear Zoo' is a popular story and some of the pupils are very clever and can identify a lot of the animals.
All pupils are motivated, encouraged and supported by their teacher Mrs Sharlene Deehan and their classroom assistants’ Mrs Liz Arrell, Mrs Clare Tracy, Mrs Brenda Mc Ginn and Mrs Daria Gralewska Begley. Through individual education plans, play based learning and fun, J4 experience a range of activities within their daily timetable. Staff strive to develop communication, numeracy, literacy, music, creativity and sensory skills, at individual pupil levels.
