J5 welcomed 8 wonderful pupils- Kaydin, Analie, Katie, Calum, Jake, Calvin, Cahir and Caleb. All pupils will be motivated, encouraged and supported by their teacher Mrs Sharlene Deehan and their classroom assistants’ Mrs Lindsay Taylor, Ms Lee Doyle, Mrs Helen Neill and Mrs Shauna Conway.
Through individual education plans and play based learning all pupils will experience a range of activities within their daily timetable.
A highlight for J5 is outdoor play. All pupils love the equipment and enjoy the interaction with their peers. Staff provide lots of opportunities for pupils to develop their communication, cognitive and sensory skills.
Halloween in J5 provided the perfect excuse for pupils and staff to get creative and develop their imagination. 3D art and craft came to life with pumpkin play and dressing up.
November in J5
J5 staff promote a learner centred approach, which encourages every pupil to progress. Each day in class a wide range of sensory experiences are provided. Exploration and experiences allow all J5 pupils to acquire, practise and develop new skills and capabilities.
December is a wonderful time to be in J5.
Role play in the 'Nativity Corner' helped develop natural curiosity and stimulate imaginations. Through sensory cookery, pupils were provided with opportunities to learn in a practical way. Pupils were able to to find out about themselves- what they liked and did not like, their interests and abilities. All pupils were encouraged to learn, get creative and where appropriate become independent.
No 'Winter Blues' in January for J5
Literacy, Numeracy and ICT permeates all aspects of J5's curriculum. Staff provide all pupils with a wide range of opportunities to develop knowledge, understanding and skills.
Getting creative in J5

World Book Day
Staff in J5 help bring stories to life with their enthusiasm. Pupils in J5 have a great love for books and respond appropriately to stories and turning the pages. Come take a look at our pictures as we celebrated World Book Day.
Step into Spring
J5 were very lucky and got to visit Mrs Scullion's lovely farm. We got the opportunity to see and hear lots of different animals. While we were there we got to watch as a new baby lamb was being born and guess what they called it? Yes J5, how exciting. Afterwards Mrs Scullion and her daughter Mary invited us in to their home where we had some delicious cakes and drinks. Thank you so much girls for a fun filled and beautiful day.
Also J5 have been enjoying the Donkey Sanctuary coming in to school each Friday. We have had so many wonderful experiences from walking alongside the Donkey's to brushing them down and stroking their beautiful soft fur. It has been a very enjoyable experience for the boys and girls getting the opportunity to be in such close contact with calming animals.
