Have a look to see what S1 pupils have been up to !
S1 is a great class of boys and girls aged 11 – 12 years in the senior end of the school . We follow the N. Ireland Curriculum and have lots of practical activities in our learning. Pupils are encouraged to become as independent as possible, and at this stage there is a focus on Learning for Life and Work.
The Belfast- based Replay Theatre Company has been a leader in the field of theatre for young audiences since it started in 1988. Over the past few years, however, it has extended its audience to include children with PMLD. This performance - "Into the Blue", took an environmental and sensory approach, and was performed in our hydrotherapy pool at Kilronan. S1 pupils got immersed in the magical atmosphere and sensory experiences which really appealed to them and it was a delight to watch them enjoy the sessions and get so much out of them.
Our Coffee Morning. Classes S1 and S2 hosted another very successful Coffee Morning this year for the N. Ireland Hospice. Pupils brought in their aprons and were involved in all the planning and organising for the big event. They helped to set up the Cookery Room and did so with great gusto. They gathered all the cups, saucers and plates from the kitchen area and brought them down to the room on a trolley. They set the crockery out on benches, folded the napkins and had the room looking great. The pupils also helped put out the food, served the tea, coffee or juice and looked after the pupils and staff very well. They also helped with the dishes and and helped tidy up afterwards. It was a great success and we raised a grand total of £402.11 which the pupils also lodged in the bank for the N. Ireland Hospice.
S1 visited an Orchard on one of their Environmental Outings. We had a lovely morning. We got lots of juicy eating apples and cooking apples. We brought some home and we used some to make a lovely apple crumble in our cookery class at school.
