Book Worms #3

16th Nov 2021

To finish off our Book Worms topic we studied The Gingerbread Man. This was certainly a favourite with some pupils! We loved taking part in a sensory story and taking on different character roles. We conducted science experiments and enjoyed observing what happened to the Gingerbread Man when he fell into puddles of different substances. The Gingerbread men absorbed most of the milk and water and got much bigger in size. When placed in an oily 'puddle' they didn't absorb as much liquid but turned a darker colour. Instead of being hard and crunchy, after 10 minutes in a puddle,  the gingerbread men were soft and soggy which helped us understand why the Gingerbread Man couldn't swim across the river! We loved baking gingerbread men and were very good at accurately measuring out the ingredients, combining them and kneading together to form a dough, then rolling and cutting the dough to make gingerbread men.We observed how the cooking process changed the gingerbread men from soft, sticky dough to hard, crunchy biscuits. They were delicious!
