J11 Science Skills Assessment (TAPS NI) with Stranmillis University College,Belfast

21st Nov 2018

J11 have had the honour of working with Stranmillis University College, this term.

The children followed Science in the World Around Us, through investigations presented by student teacher Karen Lennox (SUC) and Mrs Logan (Kilronan School).  The project, throughout the term was based around lessons designed initially by the TAPS (Teacher Assessment in Primary Science)NI, and further extension lessons created by Miss Lennox and Mrs Logan.  The lessons enabled the children to develop a range of skills associated with assessment of Science,  such as observing; doing, measuring and sorting; and evaluating.  These key science skills are in line with CCEA Progression Guidance 2017, relating solely to the Northern Ireland Curriculum.

As you can see from the photos, the children fully explored and experienced many Science assessment skills based on lessons involving Rocket Mice, making waterproof coats, exploring materials in creating Lava Lamps and in evaluating the best way to make Slime.
