From half term in February until Easter our topic in J5 was The Circus. Throughout the topic our focus was the learning area Personal Development and Mutual Understanding. Through the planned activities we were encouraging the pupils to become more confident and independent and to be able to make choices and decisions. To begin our topic we read the story The Noisy Circus and talked about each of the performers and what they did. Then the pupils had to choose which performer they would like to be. Throughout the topic we dressed up as the performers and learned how to perform tricks and entertain an audience. We used items connected with the circus to develop our Literacy and Numeracy e.g. we counted popcorn and candyfloss cartons and we learned new topic words for our reading and writing activities. The highlight of our circus topic was our performance to our friends in other classes. We designed invitations and gave out tickets for the two performances. Everyone had a fantastic time and we really enjoyed all the fun of the circus!
