Celebrating Math’s Week 2020 in S4.

Math’s Week Ireland took place between the 12th – 16th October 2020 and it was celebrated by all classes in Kilronan School.

S4 pupils participated in target games, including a hoop and loop darts game. The pupils had to try to get the highest number in their group to gain a point! Pupils also enjoyed a penalty shootout. Pupils counted the number of goals each person got in each round. We had to have one pupil with a staff member to keep the score and to keep order, as the excitement built up!

Pupils also participated in dice making and decorating in Art class. We had a go at throwing our handmade dice to see who got the highest score!

We had an “I Spy Number 5 Game” around the classroom.  We had to find 5s, or links to 5, all around the classroom!  One pupil picked up, for example, the month of May card and said, “this is the fifth month” and another pointed out a word with 5 letters!  Some pupils showed me 5 fingers!

We used a trundle wheel to measure different parts of our play area. The trundle wheel clicks after every metre when it is rolled along. We estimated the numbers of metres first. We have been learning a lot about what a metre length looks like around school. We are learning to sit at our tables, at least one metre apart from each other in school.

We really enjoyed throwing balls into a basketball hoop.  Everyone counted the number of times the ball went into the basket for each person, and Ann kept the score!

We also enjoyed keeping our balance doing hopscotch, being sure to skip the mat with the marker on it!

We also had a Number Hunt in our Sensory Garden, using pebbles marked with the numbers 1-20. I think this was the best fun. Everyone got very excited about finding the numbered pebbles hidden in the Sensory Garden, particularly as there were prizes at the end for finding the most numbered pebbles!
