Home Economics in S11

12th Nov 2025

S11 participate in weekly Home Economics lessons. Each week before Home Economics we walk to our local Tesco store and shop for our cookery ingredients. During our Tesco visits, we continue to work on our shopping facility skills such as; asking a member of staff for help, locating items independently, budgeting, comparing prices, using the self-service machine and developing our financial capabilities through making a payment as independently as possible. During our practical cookery lesson, lots of independent life skills are continually developed such as; functional mathematical skills (weighing, measuring, telling the time and estimating) and functional literacy skills (reading and following recipes/methods). Our young people are encouraged to complete their cookery activity as independently as possible, this in turn increases confidence as they continue to transition into adulthood. S11 continue to explore skills within food and kitchen safety. Of course the favorite part of these lessons is tasting our meals. S11 have voted as a class to prepare healthy breakfast options for this term.
