Long Long Ago - The Stoneage

3rd Dec 2021

In J8 we had a very interesting topic this term - The Stoneage.

Our topic began with an outdoor experience, we became archaeologists and found a range of bones. As a class we discussed who they might belong to?

During Activity Based Learning and group work we explored where the Stoneage men and women lived, the clothes they wore and the food they ate. The pupils enjoyed being ‘Hunter and Gatherers’ during an outdoor lesson. We used foam javelins to spear the mammoth, hunt for fish and gather a range of fruit, such as black and blue berries, raspberries and apples. As a group we sat together and tasted some of the fruit and had the opportunity to smell a real fish.

Stoneage men and women lived in caves and they had a range of cave paintings. Unfortunately they didn’t have ready made paint like we do in school. The pupils therefore had to make their own paint using sticks and fruit. The pupils had other opportunities to make marks and pretend they were in a cave. We lay underneath the table and used charcoal to make a range of marks.

We hope you enjoy looking at all our learning experiences this term.
