Roots, Shoots and Muddy Boots

26th Mar 2026

We’re delighted to share the fantastic work completed in our topic, “Roots, Shoots and Muddy Boots.” Pupils have been stepping into the world of plants, soil and everything that grows beneath our feet. It’s been a wonderfully practical topic, filled with discovery, exploration and plenty of muddy fun!

Over the past few weeks, pupils have been investigating how plants grow, what they need to survive, and the fascinating hidden world of roots and soil. From observing tiny seedlings to exploring the textures and creatures living in the earth, the children have embraced every opportunity to learn through practical experiences.

Pupils also had the exciting opportunity to go on a bus journey to explore the world around us. During the trip, we observed a variety of trees, big and small and talked about how different they look as the seasons change. We also paid close attention to the weather, noticing the clouds, wind and rain. We discussed the importance of rain in helping plants grow healthy roots, shoots and leaves. The journey gave pupils a wonderful chance to link their classroom learning to the real world and to see nature in action all around them.
