The Great Barrier Reef

21st Apr 2022

As a group we read the story ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae as a stimulus for our next Habitat - The Great Barrier Reef.

The pupils took part in a range of exciting, practical and cross curricular activities through activity based learning, topic work and small group activities. As a group staff supported pupil discussions on their favourite sea creatures and presented this information on a bar graph using the Interactive Whiteboard and then individually in their numeracy books. Later in the week the pupils enjoyed writing a post card pretending they were at the Great Barrier Reef. As a group we walked to the post box to post our post cards home. The pupils throughly enjoyed this experience and it gave us an opportunity to talk about road safety.

The pupils enjoyed learning all about the different layers of Ocean, The Sunlight Zone, Twilight and Midnight Zone. We watched three short video clips from the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ to explore these zones in more detail. The pupils were then able to match a range of pictures to the correct zone.

We hope you enjoy looking at all our photos.
