Welcome back, and Happy New Year!

17th Jan 2026

We were so happy to welcome our wonderful pupils back after the Christmas break. The students have settled in well, and it has been lovely to see them engage again with their routines, familiar adults, and calming classroom space. This term, we have started an exciting new topic called “Poles Apart.” We are exploring the North and South Poles, with a focus on learning through sensory experiences, visual supports, and hands on activities, including Attention Autism. The pupils explored the capacity and weight of different animals using practical resources, allowing them to experience mathematical concepts in a meaningful, interactive, and visually supported way.

During Stage 4 of Attention Autism, pupils took part in a creative task where they made their own polar animals. The teacher modelled the activity step by step, and pupils were encouraged to complete as much as possible independently, using their preferred method of communication. This activity helped pupils to:

  • Make choices about materials
  • Select and recognise colours
  • Position stencils and pieces in the correct place
  • Develop fine motor skills through sticking, pressing, placing, and arranging
