It's cold outside!

29th Jan 2018

Our topic this term is "It's cold outside!" The pupils have participated in lots of activities around this theme. Art has been lots of fun, using paint, glue, sequin snowflakes, paint lollies, cotton wool, shaving foam and lots of other media, not to forget our favourite ...glitter...and lots of it. We have created beautiful winter scenes and pictures using lots of cold colours such as blue, purple and silver.

A number of the pupils made the most of the recent snow by wrapping up warm in their cosy coats and hats and stomping around outside in it. They loved the sound as it crunched beneath their feet and even had a little giggle when we threw some snowballs. We even brought the snow into the class for one of our sensory stations! Other sensory stations which we have been exploring include driving cars through shaving foam snow, polar animals in white rice, coloured ice, and cotton wool balls. It is lots of fun, even if the classroom does get a little bit messy!

Another part of the timetable our pupils particularly like are our sensory story, sensory communication and sensology sessions. The pupils develop their concentration, communication and self-awareness skills, while becoming more relaxed through choice-making, gentle massage movements and body awareness activities. They heard about the adventures of a little polar bear through our sensory story, which helped them to concentrate and attend for longer periods of time rather than simply looking at a book. As you will see from the photographs we have all been very busy and had lots of fun learning all about the cold winter days!
