People who help us in our community.

21st Jan 2021

This is our new topic in J6. There are lots of people who help us in our community. Some people help us in emergencies like firefighters, police officers, nurses and doctors. Other people help us to stay healthy like dentists and opticians. Through engaging in Play, Numeracy, Literacy, The Arts and The World Around Us the pupils have been encouraged to find out about the different jobs people do and the different ways they help us.
We started off learning about firefighters. 🧑🏾‍🚒👩🏻‍🚒
We found out that these brave men and women rescue people from fires and put fires out. They also rescue people from trapped vehicles. We searched the internet and found out that they wear special fire resistant clothes to help keep them safe. We took turns as a firefighters putting the fire out. We worked on our numbers before, after  and in between, using water sprayers to put the number fire out. In small world play we explored the fire station and put out many fires. At one stage we even tried to rescue a cat that was stuck up a tree! We manipulated the play dough to spell the word fire and rolled out the play dough to make different lengths of hoses.
Next we are focusing on the Police Service. Our dramatic play was transformed into a police station, we are learning that police officers try to stop crime and help to catch people who have committed crimes or as we like to call them ‘the bad guys’! It’s all great fun taking on the different roles and at one stage our poor teacher was put in jail. In our small world play we have a police station with a helicopter, cars with flashing lights, motorcycles and bicycles. We found out that police officers also direct traffic and stop drivers from speeding.
